From the inaugural Borderlands Music and Arts Festival, Ballpark Brew Bash and Community Beer Works’ annual Funeral of Rutherford B. Haze to the New York Fall Beer Festival, Pearl Street’s annual tapping of the pumpkin and collaborations galore, the ninth annual Buffalo Beer Week was a blur of great beer and endless celebrations of this great beer scene. Over 100 events packed into the span of 10 days, Buffalo Beer Week is an annual reminder of just how special this scene really is.
This year’s Buffalo Beer Week featured the release of Class Is In Session IPA, the first ever all-Western New York brewery collaboration beer. Just about every WNY brewer contributed ingredients, including pale malt, galaxy hops, or something else to the finished product. The beer, a Session IPA dry-hopped with Mosaic, Citra, Galaxy, Kohatu and Wakatu hops, featured a rather nice Mosaic burst with berries and stone fruit. I honestly cannot wait to see what Buffalo Beer Week 2019 brings in terms of another collaborative effort.
And now, in no particular order, our picks for the top beers from Buffalo Beer Week 2018:
- Old First Ward Brewing #Smashtag New England IPA
